![]() ![]() Which for a company that is expanding and wanting to have multiple IPs, that has a large amount of employees, that paid a significant sum to become independent and self publish, is a seriously risky move. Not as bad as sunsetting, but not far from it, while also presenting serious problems to Bungie.Ī hiatus to make a sequel game, would take at least 2 years, minimum. Releasing a sequel would have similar backlash. 400 extra employees they wouldnt have for a sequel. Meanwhile Destiny 2 was also built with 1000 employees, 600 Bungie and 400 with Vicarious Visions and High Moon, after already being delayed a year.(Originally Destiny games were going to launch every other year, if as planned). While super heavy advertising by Activision certainly brought in new players, there are large amounts of people who were livid and dropped the franchise over that move. And once Destiny 2 got its stride, the same became true for it. Everybody just wanted Destiny 1 to keep expanding. Because by this point, people had gotten used to the changing live world in D1, and nobody wanted a sequel. One of the worst things Bungie did compared to this sunsetting, was releasing Destiny 2. Since then, it has only further deviated substantially from that original design, increasingly heavily into the MMO type stuff. However the game screwed up its story on launch(which was rebooted in development after being a linear cinematic experience), and Destiny ended up eventually finding its niche as as looter shooter MMO instead. It was explicitly contractually obligated with at least 4 games planned, with the Activision partnership. It should be noted that Destiny originally was planned as a looter shooter online halo of sorts. All the more reason they should have taken a hiatus for a sequel So there inevitably is elements of catching up to better do the new thing, as well as trying to design things in advance of where things are going. The engine is designed for the game they want, the problem is that the game they want to build, routinely has expanded in scope beyond its initial design. ![]() ![]() The way the engine was designed seems so counterintuitive to the kind of game they wanted to make.īungie engineers have explicitly mentioned they wouldnt want to build Destiny in any other engine in a engineering AMA a while back. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
